Operated by the Zambezi Helicopter Company, famed for the iconic Flight of Angels, this extended 22-minute scenic flight includes the same breathtaking views directly over the Falls, where the Zambezi plunges more than 100 metres across a 1.7-kilometre-wide curtain of water — a UNESCO-recognised natural wonder and one of the most powerful waterfalls on Earth. What sets the Zambezi Explorer apart is what comes before and after this defining moment. The flight launches from the Zambezi Helipad and joins the Batoka Gorge at Rapid Number 8, known to the rafting fraternity as Midnight Diner. Here, the helicopter follows the raging river from the top of the gorge, as it tears through the narrow confines of the canyon below— in places just 30 metres wide. After soaring over the Falls, the journey continues upstream to Long Island, where the Zambezi transforms once again into a wide, meandering river dotted with islands and rich with wildlife,  The flight finally passes over the Victoria Falls resort town before returning to the helipad. How are the helicopters maintained?

Our Bell 206 LongRanger and Bell JetRanger helicopters are the most reliable aircraft on the market. They are maintained to the highest industry standards as specified by the manufacturer, Bell Textron. We follow the South African Maintenance Organisation and Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe’s guidelines and our service centre is the only one in Africa that is International Business Aviation Council and Helicopter Association International accredited. 

How do I get there?

We will pick you up for free from any hotel in The Victoria Falls Area.

What is not included?

Please bring cash with you to cover park fees. You can also purchase videos and photos of your experience to take home with you.

What should I bring?

Your camera. Money for park fees and photos or videos.

What should I leave behind?

Anything too heavy or that will take up unnecessary space.

Is there an age limit or weight restriction?

There are no age restrictions, although children must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 3 fly for free, sitting on a parent’s lap. Children over 3 pay full price and have a seat. There is generally a weight limit of 120kg per passenger, but this can often be worked around depending on the weight of other passengers.

Is there insurance?

The company has $5m USD in public liability for in helicopter incidents and $2m for any of incidents outside of the helicopter, this is underwritten by Lloyds of London.

At Zambezi Helicopter Company we understand that plans can change, and we strive to be as accommodating as possible. However, to ensure that all participants have the best experience, we have implemented the following cancellation policy:

  1. Cancellations Made 24 Hours Prior to the Activity:

    • If you need to cancel your reservation, please notify us at least 24 hours before the scheduled activity. Cancellations made 24 hours or more in advance will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no additional cost.

  2. Cancellations Made Less Than 24 Hours Prior to the Activity:

    • Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled activity time will not be eligible for a refund. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, so we offer the option to reschedule your activity, subject to availability and a rescheduling fee of $5.

  3. No-Shows:

    • Failure to attend the activity without prior notice will result in the full charge of the activity with no option for a refund or rescheduling.

  4. Exceptions:

    • In certain cases, such as emergencies or extreme weather conditions, exceptions to this policy may be made at the discretion of our management team. Please contact us as soon as possible if such circumstances arise.

  5. Group Bookings:

    • For group bookings, cancellations must be made  48 hours prior to the scheduled activity. Cancellations made within this time frame will be subject to the terms outlined above.
